MANCHESTER, N.H. — Carl Crawford and Ryan Sweeney are both in the starting lineup for Double A Portland tonight against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats as they continue rehabbing their respective injuries.
Crawford, who has been on the disabled list all season after suffering a partially torn ligament in his left elbow, will lead off and play left field. He is 3 for 6 in two games with Portland. Sweeney, out for around three weeks with continued soreness in the sesamoid bone in his left foot, is batting third as the designated hitter.
Jacoby Ellsbury, who started Wednesday night against New Hampshire and went 1 for 5 with a single, was not with Portland Thursday, instead taking a scheduled day off. He will likely be with the Sea Dogs on Friday. In eight games between the Gulf Coast League Red Sox and Portland, Ellsbury is 3 for 15 with a home run and 3 RBIs.
Manager Bobby Valentine has said that the Sox will likely hold off on activating both Crawford and Ellsbury until after the All-Star break.
More updates from their appearances to come.
