Stat of the Day: The Sox are 24-28 against the Orioles over the last three seasons with losses in 15 of the last 21 games.

Notes: If the Red Sox accomplished anything in 2012, it was finding a starter in Doubront. Tonight will be his 29th start and he has thrown 154 innings. He is closing strong, too, having allowed six earned runs over 19.1 innings in his last three starts. The lefty dominated the Orioles on Sunday at Fenway Park, allowing one run over seven innings and striking out a career-best 11. He didn’t allow a hit until the fifth inning. … Johnson, a 24-year-old rookie, is making his fourth career start. He threw two innings of relief against the Sox on Aug. 16 and struck out four. … Podsednik has hit safely in six straight at 8 of 19. … The Orioles start the day a game out of first (the Yankees have an afternoon game at Toronto) and have a three-game lead in the wild card with five games to play. … The Sox have lost three straight and seven of eight.

Song of the Day: “Can’t Cry Anymore” by Sheryl Crow.
