Doubront gets his money’s worth in Single A game

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Red Sox lefthander Felix Doubront pitched for Single A Salem at Fenway South this afternoon against Frederick.

Check out this unusual line: 5.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 6 BB, 9 K, 1 HB, 1 WP. He threw 103 pitches, 56 for strikes.

Doubront struck out eight of the last 14 batters he faced after a rough first inning that saw him walk two batters and allow the two runs. His velocity was 94-95 at times and he threw his curveball for strikes.

The biggest thing was getting to 103 pitches and getting into the sixth inning. That sets him up for a shorter outing on Saturday to get him ready for the season.

Infielder Pedro Ciriaco, who has been out with back spasms, played in the same game and was 1 for 4 with a double. He spent five innings at shortstop. Ciriaco said afterward that he felt fine.
