Red Sox reassign Bogaerts, Diaz and Sutton

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Red Sox have reassigned infielders Xander Bogaerts, Jonathan Diaz, and Drew Sutton to minor league camp.

Bogaerts, 20, was 2 for 7 over six games. The shortstop was away for nearly a month playing for the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic. Bogaerts played only 23 games for Double A Portland last season, so he could return to the Eastern League to start the season.

Diaz hit .240 and Sutton .257. They are likely to have starting roles for Triple A Pawtucket.

The Red Sox now have 39 players in big league camp. That includes outfielder Ryan Kalish, who is on the 60-day disabled list and four players — Craig Breslow, Stephen Drew, Franklin Morales and David Ortiz — who are expected to open the season on the 15-day DL.

Non-roster outfielder Mitch Maier also is injured.
