Webster to start against Tigers on Saturday

DETROIT — The Red Sox named Allen Webster as their starter on Saturday.

The 23-year-old had two starts this season. There was a quite good one against the Royals on April 21 (6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) and a quite hideous one against the Twins on May 8 (1.2 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 3 BB, 2 K).

Webster is 5-1 with a 2.98 earned run average in 10 starts for Pawtucket.

• No report yet on David Ross, who was examined by concussion specialist Dr. Michael Collins in Pittsburgh earlier today.

• Mike Carp (hamstring) has been fully cleared. Look for him to start a game or two this weekend.

• The Sox are hoping Clay Buchholz starts Tuesday. If not, he’ll need a minor league rehab assignment. The plans call for a long bullpen session on Saturday, a simulated game of sorts.
