The Red Sox announced their 2013 Minor League award winners before Saturday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Here are the winners from this year:
Pitcher: Henry Owens
Owens went 11-6 with a 2.46 ERA in 26 starts for Single-A Salem and Double-A Portland. He also recorded 169 strikeouts and held opposing batters to a .177 batting average.
Offensive: Mookie Betts
Betts played 127 games as a second baseman between Single-A Greenville and Single-A Salem in 2013, hitting .314 with 15 home runs and 65 RBIs. He also stole 38 bases and held an OPS of .923.
Defensive: Blake Swihart
Swihart played 103 games for Single-A Salem, hitting .298 with an OPS of .794. In 101 games at catcher, he recorded just 10 errors with a fielding percentage of .988.
Baserunner: Deven Marrero
Marrero played 104 games for Single-A Salem and Double-A Portland, hitting .252 with a .338 OBP. He also stole 27 bases and was caught only twice while scoring 57 runs.
Latin Pitcher: Dedgar Jimenez
Jimenez pitched 13 games for the Red Sox’ Dominican Summer League affiliate, holding an ERA of 1.50, while also recording 55 strikeouts in 60 innings.
Latin Player: Victor Acosta
Acosta played 63 games at third base for the Red Sox’ Dominican Summer League affiliate, hitting .256 with eight home runs and 39 RBIs, and had an OPS of .728.
