Final: Rockies 8, Red Sox 3

Game over: Rockies 8, Red Sox 3 – The Red Sox didn’t elevate their game at Coors Field tonight in their quest to keep the best record in the American League in place. Whether it was the high altitude or just a bad night, John Lackey (10-13) allowed three home runs and Sox relievers were lit up for four more runs.Charles Blackmon, Troy Tulowitzki and Corey Dickerson all homered for Colorado. Boston’s first run came in the 7th when Will Middlebrooks doubled to right and scored on a double-error by pitcher Tyler Chatwood, who the Red Sox weren’t able to solve. Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a home run in the ninth after David Ortiz singled (and was pinch-run for by Brock Holt). There were 32,315 on hand at Coors Field. The game was played in 2:40.


Bottom 8th: Rockies 8, Red Sox 1 – Rubby De La Rosa on for the Sox. DeLa Rosa allowed a walk and single, but no further damage in this one-sided game at Coors Field.

Top 8th: Rockies 8, Red Sox 1 – Victorino singled to right with one out, but that’s all the Red Sox could manage.

Bottom 7th: Rockies 8, Red Sox 1 – Rockies doubled their lead with four runs rallying against Drake Britton, Brandon Workman and Franklin Morales. Pacheco doubled off Britton. Workman came on and he allowed a single to right moving Pacheco to third. After Blackmon walked to load the bases, LeMahieu singled in two runs. Tulowitzki grounded out but Michael Cuddyer singled in two more.

Top 7th: Rockies 4, Red Sox 1 – A double to right by Midldebrooks created a run when Chatwood committed two errors, first missing Todd Helton’s toss to first on Jackie Bradley’s grounder after Helton dove and made a nice play to stop the ball. Chatwood then over threw the plate where Middlebrooks came around to score. Middlebrooks broke an 0-for-9 with the hit.

Bottom 6th: Rockies 4,Red Sox 0 – The retiring Todd Helton singled with one out, but the Rockies do not do much else.

Top 6th: Rockies 4, Red Sox 0 – Nava, Pedroia and Ortiz go down vs. Chatwood.


Bottom 5th: Rockies 4, Red Sox 0 – Lackey retired the Rockies in order.

Top 5th: Rockies 4, Red Sox 0 – There’s a single by Jackie Bradley and a stolen base with one out, but Lackey struck out and Victorino flew out to center.

Bottom 4th: Rockies 4, Red Sox 0 – Corey Dickerson homered with two outs as Lackey’s woes continue.

Top 4th: Rockies 3, Red Sox 0 – Dustin Pedroia reached on an infield chopper, but the Red Sox couldn’t muster anything else.

Bottom 3rd: Rockies 3, Red Sox 0 – Troy Tulowitzki homered to left center on a 1-0 pitch to increase Rockies lead.

Top 3rd: Rockies 2, Red Sox 0 – The Red Sox are 9-0-2 in their last 11 interleague series, but trail here as they go down in order against Chatwood.

Bottom 2nd: Rockies 2, Red Sox 0 – The Rockies ground out twice and strikeout (Chatwood) against Lackey.

Top 2nd: Rockies 2, Red Sox 0 – Drew, Middlebrooks and Bradley Jr go down against Chatwood.

Bottom 1st: Rockies 2, Red Sox 0 – Leadoff man Charlie Blackmon lofted a 1-1 pitch into the rightfield bleachers to give the Rockies an early lead off of John Lackey, who retired the next two batters before Michael Cuddyer doubled to deep right on a ball that Shane Victorino twisted and turned on and couldn’t come up with. Victorino has been in a bit of a fielding slump lately. Cuddyer scored on Todd Helton’s single to center.

Top 1st: Red Sox 0, Rockies 0 – The Red Sox left two men on base. Daniel Nava was hit with a Tyler Chatwood pitch and after two outs after Nava had taken off with the pitch and made it to second after Dustin Pedroia grounded out, David Ortiz was walked intentionally after the count went to three balls. Jarrod Saltalamacchia grounded out to short.
