Red Sox Send Stephen Drew to Single-A Greenville

The Red Sox announced that shortstop Stephen Drew, who was officially signed with the team earlier this week, will be headed to the team’s Single-A affiliate Greenville.

Drew had been a free agent up until being picked up by the Sox officially Wednesday May 21 on a 1-year contract through the 2014 season. Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington had indicated that Drew would need to get up to speed before Friday’s announcement.

In a subsequent move, the Red Sox recalled right handed pitcher Alex Wilson from Triple-A Pawtucket. He will be active for tonight’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
