Clay will have to wait another day.
Tonight’s Pawtucket Red Sox game vs. Charlotte at McCoy Stadium has been postponed due to rain and wet grounds. The teams will play a doubleheader with Clay Buchholz getting the start in Game 1, Saturday at 5:05 p.m.
Buchholz is expected to throw five innings. Buchholz threw in a 48 pitch simulated game in Detroit on Sunday. The lanky righty has struggled mightily all season and eventually landed on the DL on May 27 with what the team said was a hyperextended left knee.
Will Middlebrooks is expected to serve as the DH tomorrow. Shane Victorino is slated to play right field.
Middlebrooks was placed on the 15-day DL on May 17 with a fractured right finger. He lost his starting job at third base when Xander Bogaerts moved over to third after the Red Sox acquired Stephen Drew to play shortstop.
Victorino has been on the DL since May 24 with a right hamstring strain.
Left-hander Felix Doubront, on the DL since May 21 with a left shoulder strain, is scheduled to make his third rehab start Sunday with Pawtucket.
