Stephen Drew To Be Re-Evaluated Today; DL Possible

BOSTON – Shortstop Stephen Drew was not in the lineup for Saturday afternoon’s game against the Indians at Fenway Park. Since rejoining the Red Sox on May 21, Drew has appeared in just four games, batting .071 going 1-for-14. Hampered by an ailing left oblique, he has not appeared in a game since June 8. With left-hander T.J. House starting for the Indians today, the left-handed hitting Drew likely would not have been in the starting lineup anyway.

Drew is expected to go through a pregame workout, after which he will be re-evaluated. If he passes, he could be available off the bench, said manager John Farrell.

But, if not, he will undergo an MRI and likely be placed on the disabled list, which could be back-dated to June 9.

“This will be the biggest test to date for him,” Farrell said. “If he passes this, we’ve got him available today. If not, we may have to do something roster-wise at that point.”
