With Tuesday’s 8-3 loss at the hands of the White Sox, the Red Sox fell to a measly 1-7 eight games into this 10-game homestand that was supposed to help them get back into contention. With the news that A.J. Pierzynski was designated for assignment on Wednesday, 23-year-old Christian Vazquez was called up to make his first MLB start behind the plate.
