Will Middlebrooks Called Back From Rehab Assignment

It’s another setback for Will Middlebrooks.

The Red Sox third baseman jammed his left wrist while sliding into third base in a game for the Triple-A Pawtucket against Toledo Friday night and has been recalled from his rehab assignment.

Middlebrooks had just restarted his rehab assignment with the PawSox on July 1. He was 7-for-27 with two walks and four RBI in eight games since resuming his rehab stint.

Middlebrooks has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 17 after breaking his right index finger on May 10. He was previously shut down with swelling in the finger.

Middlebrooks was asked what this season has been like for him by Maureen Mullen in Pawtucket recently.

“Well, tough,” Middlebrooks said. “It’s been two years of this. I’m not one to make excuses but it’s just tough. I feel like I’ve been healthy for about a month and half in the last two years. That’s tough. I’m frustrated. I think anyone would be. I just want to play and play at the level I know I’m capable of.”
