Game 138: David Ortiz Back in Red Sox Lineup in the Bronx

Can’t remember the last time there was such a lack of buzz leading into a series between the Red Sox and Yankees, but nevertheless, the two AL East rivals will square off for three games in the Bronx starting tonight.

Righthander Joe Kelly — still looking for his first Red Sox win — gets the start for Boston, opposed by Shane Greene. David Ortiz, who missed Sunday’s game at the Trop, is back in the Red Sox lineup.

Notes: The Red Sox have recalled catcher Dan Butler and pitcher Anthony Ranaudo… Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia remains out of the lineup after missing the last two games because of concussion-like symptoms after taking an elbow to the head on Saturday… Kelly faces the Yankees for the first time tonight. In his last start, Kelly gave up two runs and three hits in six innings in a 5-2 loss to the Blue Jays… In his last four starts, rookie Shane Greene is 2-0 with a 2.42 ERA. Against the Red Sox, Greene has struggled, putting up a 5.40 ERA in one start and a relief appearance… Five Red Sox affiliates — Triple-A Pawtucket, Double-A Portland, High-A Salem, and Rookie-level Gulf Coast and Dominican Summer Leagues — made it to the playoffs, It’s the most Red Sox’ affiliates in the postseason as far back as research is currently available (since at least 1970)… All players will be wearing Strike Out Cancer t-shirts, each featuring a backwards K in a team-specific color.
