FOXBOROUGH — Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata confirmed today to the Baltimore Sun that he had been fined $5,000 by the NFL for the roughing-the-passer flag he drew on Patriots quarterback Tom Brady during Sunday’s 27-21 New England win.
Ngata’s penalty came in the first quarter when he struck Brady in the helmet with his left arm while attempt to bat down a pass. Brady spun to the ground and his helmet popped off a bit.
The Sun reported that Ravens pass rusher Terrell Suggs, who was also flagged for roughing-the-passer when he dove at and grazed the knee of Brady, said he had not received a fine from the NFL.
Ngata’s fine is the same amount that Patriots defensive lineman Mike Wright received for a roughing-the-passer penalty he was whistled for on Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco that involved Wright inadvertently hitting Flacco in the facemask with his right arm.
Wright said yesterday that he planned to appeal his fine. Ngata told the Sun he wasn’t going to appeal his.
