FOXBOROUGH — First, the easy part: Tom Brady to Randy Moss, 71 yards. Touchdown.
Next the decision. With 4:51 remaining in the third quarter and the Patriots up 22-17 following Moss’s touchdown, Bill Belichick was faced with a tough choice: go for two and go up by a touchdown, or kick the extra point and leave the game in reach of a pair of field goals.
The Patriots went for it and converted, giving themselves some breathing room when Miami was driving late in the game.
“That was a real tough decision,” said Belichick. “We’re up by five, it’s late in the third quarter. You kind of feel like it’s not going to be the last score in the game…Had it been later in the game it would have been an obvious decision. At that point in the third quarter it was a tough one…I could have easily kicked it there and come in here and said I did the right thing, too.”
“He’s a pretty quick healer,” said Belichick. “He’s a pretty tough guy.”
