Here’s a nice little synopsis of Welker’s road to recovery. I’ll give you the Cliff’s Notes version:
* The first step is range-of-motion exercise to help the players regain full extension in the knee.
* Three weeks in, he should start to work on his balance, and can even do some football-specific exercises.
* After about a month-and-a-half, he can start light running, doing pool work, and riding a bike, with intensity increasing with time.
* Looks like it’ll be May or June when he can really start back with football drills. But this particular report warns that while it might feel “normal”, it’s important to monitor the amount of stress put on the knee.
And then, at some point, he gets back to the field. It’s hard to figure exactly when, since every guy’s different. Could camp be a possibility? Hard to rule anything out with this guy. But it does look like, about six months out, that would be tough.
