Wes Welker’s got more than just a knee injury to rehabilitate from.

Welker also has a torn rotator cuff, an NFL source confirmed to the Globe tonight. Welker has already had surgery to repair the injured shoulder, the source said.

News of the injury first surfaced at the Big Rips blog, and author Seth Davis contacted Boston-area media outlets with the information.

Welker’s recovery timetable is unknown, though it certainly complicates his return from the reconstructive knee surgery he underwent in February.

UPDATE (11:52 p.m.): Here, courtesy of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, is a little more on the nature of the shoulder injury.
