The United Football League’s Hartford Colonials have released their list of coaches for their inaugural season, and there’s a familiar name on the roster: Shane Waldron.
Waldron spent the last two seasons with the Patriots, serving as tight ends coach last year after working as a coaching assistant in 2008. Before coming to New England, Waldron was a graduate assistant at Notre Dame under Charlie Weis.
Waldron was not retained by the Pats, and his two most prominent charges — Benjamin Watson and Chris Baker — are no longer with the team either.
The Colonials’ head coach and general manager is 20-year NFL coach Chris Palmer, formerly the quarterbacks coach for the New York Giants. He also tutored a young Drew Bledsoe on Bill Parcells’s staff in New England.
Also on the staff in Hartford is Tony Sparano, the son of Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano, who will serve as assistant defensive line coach.
