Belichick plays big role with Rutgers lacrosse

The middle of Bill Belichick’s three children — son Stephen — is a junior defenseman at Rutgers in New Jersey, and while the elder Belichick can’t be at every game, he still plays a big role in both Stephen’s development and of the Scarlet Knights program in general.

A story in today’s Newark Star-Ledger has quotes from both Bill and Stephen Belichick, and how Bill stays involved with his son and the game they love even as the New England coach prepares for the upcoming NFL draft.

Bill watches Rutgers’ games online when he can’t be there in person, and Stephen sends his father video before each of the team’s games for Bill to break down tendencies of opposing players.

And Scarlet Knights coach Jim Stagnitta traveled to Foxborough the week before the Pats’ playoff loss to Baltimore in January, seeking Belichick’s counsel on how to turn around a squad that was 4-11 last spring.

Bill Belichick is the keynote speaker for the Rutgers’ football coaches’ clinic today.

The oldest Belichick child, Amanda, is an assistant coach of the UMass women’s lacrosse team, while youngest child Brian is attending Suffield Academy in Connecticut.
