Fred Taylor honored by U. Florida athletics

With all of the recent talk about one University of Florida athlete potentially landing in New England, another former Gator was honored by the school last night: running back Fred Taylor was among eight athletes to be inducted into the UF Athletics Hall of Fame.

Taylor was a member of the Gators’ 1996 national championship team and was the third-leading rusher in program history when his playing days were done in 1997; a few months later he was drafted in the first round by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

A native of Belle Glade, Florida, Taylor was inducted into the Palm Beach County Hall of Fame last month.

With 11,540 career rushing yards (and an impressive 4.6 yards per carry) in the NFL and his career in its final years, the conversation will begin soon enough as to whether Taylor deserves a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
