The deal comes just weeks after the team imported Chargers corner Antonio Cromartie, who’s got some issues of his own.
Similarly, Holmes is a top-end talent. And where Cromartie was named All-Pro a few years back, the ex-Steeler already has a Super Bowl MVP on his resume.
He won that 15 months ago, and followed it up with 79 catches for 1,248 yards and five touchdowns in 2009. This is, without question, a big-time acquisition.
Or it is, that is, if Holmes can walk the straight-and-narrow. PFT reported last week that Holmes is facing a four-week suspension after a dispute with a woman at an Orlando nightclub last month.
The Jets are bringing in some guys with baggage here, to be sure. But the risk isn’t real high on this one — They’re shipping off a fifth-round pick for Holmes, an absolute bargain for a star 26-year-old receiver if he behaves himself.
