Two more draft names to pass on

Count Mississippi State LB Jamar Chaney and Illinois WR Arrelious Benn among the 30 players on the list of those visiting Foxborough in advance of the NFL Draft.

The National Football Post’s Aaron Wilson reported on the former this morning and the latter on Saturday.

Benn’s probably a second-rounder, and was an impact player in all three of his seasons in the Big Ten. He’s 6 feet 1 inch, 219 pounds, tough as nails and good with the ball in his hands, but some questions arose about his long speed after he ran a 4.56 40 at the combine. Benn can do a lot of things, and the Illini got him the ball every which way (as a runner, receiver and returner) while he was there.

Chaney, on the other hand, tested very well athletically, but his instincts have been called into question through this process. Probably a mid-round pick (Maybe a consideration for that fourth-rounder for the Patriots) in this draft.

Both guys had injury issues in college. Benn had concussion problems, and a bum ankle, while Chaney dealt with a broken leg and MCL sprain, so the physical could be key to these guys’ visits in Foxborough.
