As is the case with every rookie, there’s a long story as to how McCourty got there. And here’s a good look at that tale, courtesy of our own Shalise Manza Young.
At the very least, the Patriots seem to be getting someone you can root for in this kid, who’s twin brother Jason went from sixth-round pick to defensive contributor for the Tennessee Titans last year.
“I will tell you right now — and I’m not saying this because you’re
here — Jason and Devin, I would put them with my all-time favorite
people,” said McCourty’s high school coach, Tony Karcich of St. Joseph’s Regional in North Jersey. “We may have had better players, we’ve had guys that
were more heavily recruited, maybe a little bit more accomplished
statistically and all that, but I don’t think anybody is better people
than those guys.”
Give that one a good read, as Shalise takes you through the journey McCourty took from Nanuet, N.Y. to Rutgers and now on to New England.
