There were plenty of good nuggets in there. One was from draft night, when Spikes told Bill Belichick — at the end of their talk after the Patriots selected the Gator — to “Send me the playbook, ASAP, (like) right now.”
And another came after the team’s rookie minicamp. Spikes (thanks to Patriots.com for the photo there) expected some familiarity, because of Belichick’s tight relationship with Florida coach Urban Meyer, and there was. But there was also plenty to digest, and some funny rules to adjust to.
“After flying there and practicing all day, I was exhausted,” Spikes wrote. “The days were long. I was there from 6 in the morning until 10 at night on Friday and Saturday. That’s the Patriot Way. Either get on the boat or get left behind.
“One interesting thing: The team won’t let you use any kind of electronic device in the facility. I found out as soon as I walked in the building. They said you’re here to work. If you have a laptop or a phone or an iPod, any modern-day technology, you best leave it in your locker.”
So now the rookies — as they return to Foxborough this week — know the deal. Or at least some of it, anyway.
