With so much of the team in town next week as the team starts its passing camps, I thought it might be worth taking a look around at what some these guys have been in doing away from the field.
The video above gives you one example … with veteran running back Fred Taylor getting a new foundation off the ground. His hope is to help disabled children, and he started with a $25,000 donation to Wolfson Children’s Hospital down in his native Florida.
Back home, second-year offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer was part of a science fair at Gillette Stadium last week, serving with his boss, owner Robert Kraft, as a judge. Brian Lowe and Co. were there to capture all of that.
From a more business-related standpoint, the league’s assistant coaches are considering the idea of forming a union, and the Patriots are being represented in these discussions by long-time assistant Dante Scarnechhia. Makes sense that he would, since I was 2 when Scarnecchia was first part of a Patriots staff, and he has spent all but two of the 28 seasons since in Foxborough.
And finally, as a reminder, Wes Welker’s camp starts tomorrow at Thayer Academy in Braintree, with Matt Light, Julian Edelman, Tully Banta-Cain and Stephen Gostkowski slated to help out. We, of course, will be there in full force.
