Patriots WR Wes Welker practiced again today, going until about 11:15 a.m. (practice started at 10:45) before retreating to bubble for more rehab (presumably).

What’s the idea being out here right now?
Just getting out there with my teammates, and getting as many reps as I can, and trying and gain a little muscle memory. And just get out there and do a few things and be out there with guys together.
Did you think you’d be back this fast?
I’m just taking it day-to-day and working hard and coming back as quickly as I can and trying to get better on a daily basis.
Is this where you expected to be at this time?
I don’t know what my expectations were. My main goal is just going out, working hard every day and making sure that I get ready and push myself every day and get back early as possible.
Are you where you expected to be, or ahead or behind?
I feel good. Just trying to work hard and from day-to-day just get better. That’s been my plan from the get-go. I’m sticking to that plan.
Were you aware of the buzz your return to practice created?
Yeah. I didn’t think it’d be that big a deal. I’ve been pushing it and trying to get ready and get out there with my teammates, get a few reps and try and get better as much as we can.
Is it more mental than physical at this point?
I always feel confident. I wouldn’t be out there if I didn’t feel confident. And I know my coaches and teammates have confidence in me just like I do them and we’re just gonna move along as quickly as we can.
How long have you been doing football-specific stuff?
I’ve been trying to do football-specific stuff from the get-go, and trying to do that as much as possible. I’m trying to stay at that.
Do expect to have to play with a brace?
I don’t know. I’m just going along with it, and it feels fine as of right now, and we’ll just keep on rolling with it until we don’t need to any more.
How do visualize your impact for next season?
I visualize myself going out there and helping the team as much as possible. Whatever that is, is what it is and whatever the coaches want me to do, that’s where I’m gonna be. And that’s all I can do right now.
Are you at all surprised, after getting that diagnosis, having a torn ACL, to be out here in early June?
I mean, not really. I’ve been trying to push it since Day 1 and get back as early as possible, get back out there with my teammates.
Is there any concern about overdoing it too quickly?
No. I don’t look at it as overdoing it. I look at it as pushing myself, and getting myself ready as possible.
Are you limited in any way?
No. I feel pretty good out there. I still need to get back in the groove of playing ball and doing some things like that. But everything’s feeling alright right now.
Is opening day a goal?
I want to get back as early as possible, and whenever that is, is when it is. And my goal is just working hard and getting back with my teammates as early as possible.
Assuming you had to be cleared medically to be out here …
Yeah. They stay on top of me and we’re making sure we’re doing all the right things and getting back as much as we can.
