Nothing to worry about on Welker

The assumption most people jumped to after Wes Welker underwent ACL surgery in February was that his return would come mid-season at best.

That assumption, in Welker’s mind, was always wrong. The plan was always to be back for Week 1 and, even as the Patriots put him on the active/PUP list yesterday, things haven’t veered off the path in the least.

In today’s Globe, I took a detailed look at where Welker is in his comeback.

Check it out … But if you want the boiled down version, what you need to know: If there was a game tomorrow, Welker could play; The idea now is to prepare him for preseason action to get re-acclimated to game speed ; And above all else, the Patriots want him in uniform on Week 1.

As we reported on Friday night, while the possibility was there that the team would play it safe and pace him, Welker is ready for all drills. So the news continues to be good on New England’s All-Pro.
