Aaron Hernandez soaking in tips from veterans

FOXBOROUGH — There have been times during training camp that rookie tight end Aaron Hernandez can be seen receiving one-on-one tips from quarterback Tom Brady.

The moments are considered invaluable to Hernandez, a fourth-round draft pick out of Florida.

“He just teaches me, along with the receivers like [Randy] Moss and [Torry Holt], teaches me little moves on routes, how to change stuff up, and it’s helped me a lot so far,” Hernandez said.

In the preseason opener, Hernandez was targeted six times and caught three passes for 26 yards. The NFL experience was not a surprise, he said.

“Definitely what I expected,” Hernandez said. “It’s a fast game. Everybody is good, and you’ve got to go out there and compete.”

While Hernandez is learning an advanced system with the Patriots, he said he was able to relate some things back to his experience at Florida.

“It’s similar because it’s a spread offense,” Hernandez said. “We have a lot of stuff that’s similar to Florida, but a lot of the stuff is also different, a lot of the language to it. If you study it, it all comes easy.”
