Belichick’s morning press conference from Georgia

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — We are here on a muggy, misty day north of Atlanta as the Patriots-Falcons joint practice is underway.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick just wrapped up his press conference on the field. Wes Welker is with the team but Belichick said there are about 10 others who are not. There will be two practices today. The first from 8:30 a.m. until 10:55 a.m. and the second begins at 3:45 p.m.

Here are a few other highlights.

On who traveled?: We brought the people that would be beneficial for them to come, and other people that we didn’t we felt we would get more done with them there.”

On visiting another facility: “… You go to a lot colleges in the spring, but it’s not the same. Just being on the field with the Saints last week was interesting just watching their guys work, their coaches, their drills, their operation. It was something that we haven’t done in a while and it is interesting to see what another team does.”:

On taking years to do joint practice: “We just felt like for a number of reasons it was the right situation this year. We never ruled in or ruled it out before it just fit right this time.”

Practicing against Drew Brees and now Matt Ryan: “They’re similar in that they’re real good, which is good. We work against good quarterbacks in practice and we saw Brees last week and we’ll see Ryan this week. I think that’s great. It’s about as tough as it’s going to get. They’re as good as anybody in this league. That really presents a challenge for our defense not only on the individual plays themselves but the disguise and trying to keep the quarterback from just seeing what we’re in and chewing it up. It’s great work for us.”
