The first Patriots cut has come, and reportedly it is veteran defensive lineman Damione Lewis.
ProFootballTalk, NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora and ESPN’s Adam Schefter are all reporting the release; we are working to confirm.
A former first-round draft pick of St. Louis in 2001, Lewis was signed in April. He had never played in a 3-4 system before in his time with the Rams and Carolina, but had certainly proven himself to be serviceable as a pass-rusher, with 22.5 career sacks, and solid against the run. Lewis is also considered a positive locker room presence.
