Faulk placed on IR

The Patriots have placed Kevin Faulk on injured reserve, ending the versatile 34-year-old running back’s season.

According to the Globe’s Shalise Manza Young, who is at Gillette Stadium, Faulk is meeting with media now to discuss his situation.

“Reports are correct, I have a torn ACL,” he said. “I’ll have surgery in about a month and go from there.”

Faulk, the Patriots’ longest-tenured player, got the ball from quarterback Tom Brady on a first-down play during the fourth quarter and ran wide left toward the Jets sideline. Jets cornerback Drew Coleman knocked Faulk out of bounds with a low tackle. It was apparent Faulk was injured right away.

The Patriots training staff tended to Faulk, who remained face-down on the field after the tackle. As he walked toward the bench, Faulk flung his mouthpiece.

Faulk said today he has come to grips with the injury.

“I’m not sad anymore,” he said. “Cried a lot when it first happened, but that’s life.”
