According to multiple NFL sources, linebacker Shawn Crable will be promoted off the Patriots’ practice squad for Sunday’s game against Buffalo, filling the roster spot left open when Kevin Faulk was placed on injured reserve this week.
To say the least, it has been an interesting ride in New England for Crable since being drafted in the third round in 2008. He has yet to play a regular-season down, spending the better part of his first two seasons on injured reserve. The 6-foot-5 Crable said in the offseason he knew he was entering a make-or-break year, only to be cut on the eve of training camp.
He was re-signed by the Pats, to their practice squad, earlier this month.
It is believed Crable will play primarily on passing downs to try and help New England generate a pass rush.
It became safe to assume the Pats would promote from within once the team didn’t sign a free agent after placing Faulk on IR on Wednesday.
