FOXBOROUGH — Deion Branch said the move to renegotiate his contract was done to get him back to this situation.
“I think it was just more so something that I was dealing with;it’s nothing bad at all,” Branch said today. “I just always wanted to be around champions. It’s always good to have that feeling and to know what you’re surrounded with.”
Branch agreed to reduce his base salary to $2.2 million for 2011, the final year of his six-year, $39 million contract he signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2006. The original contract would have given Branch $5.95 million for the 2011 season. Under the restructured deal, incentives could boost Branch’s salary to $4 million.
“I think both parties agreed on something and we worked it out,” Branch said. “You got to know what you’re doing before and I know my purpose and why I did it, you know, and that’s the most important thing.”
