NFL pulls big-hit photos from online store

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said this morning via Twitter that the league regrets making photos of the big hits that resulted in large fines levied this week available for sale at the league’s online photo store.

Photos of Brandon Meriweather’s blow to Ravens tight end Todd Heap, and Steelers linebacker James Harrison’s shot on the Browns’ Mohamed Massaquoi were available.

Aiello said via Twitter:

@gregaiello: On NFL Photo Store: We regret mistake. Those photos will be removed ASAP & we will ensure no photos of illegal plays are available again.

UPDATE, 2:14 p.m.: According to The Associated Press, the NFL said an outside vendor used “an automated process” to post photos for sale, but the system was being changed.

In the same story, AP reported that Harrison criticized the league for having the photos available.

“I guess they want to get their money on the front end and the back end,” said Harrison, who was fined $75,000 for his hit Sunday vs. the Browns.
