Members of the New England Patriots were at Henry Grew Elementary in Hyde Park this morning to help present the school with a $10,000 grant from the NFL and spread the message of the league’s NFL Play 60 campaign.
QB Tom Brady, WR Deion Branch, P Zoltan Mesko and S Brandon Meriweather along with Patriots owner Robert Kraft attended the event to present the school with the grant for healthy and wellness programming or equipment.
Brady had a funny moment when one of the boys asked him a question and he complimented the student on his grade of curly hair. Then Brady pulled off his hat and shook his hair which drew laughs from the students in the gymnasium.
“It’s pretty special that they won that grant, and obviously they’re committed to the program NFL Play 60 and it’s great for some of the players to come out and hopefully give the kids a thrill at their morning assembly,” Brady said.
Mayor Thomas Menino also was in attendance. Players hung around after the assembly and went through a few workouts with students from jumping rope to running sprints.
