Meet new Patriots long snapper Matt Katula

FOXBOROUGH — With all of the news of the day on Wednesday, the new long snapper for the Patriots was lost in the shuffle. That isn’t such a bad thing in the mind of Matt Katula.

Katula signed with the Patriots this week and replaced long snapper Jake Ingram, who was released by the Patriots on Tuesday. Katula signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2005 and handled the long snapping duties through the 2009 season. But this past August he lost his job to a rookie.

Now with the Patriots, Katula wouldn’t mind if the media isn’t hanging out by his locker anytime soon.

“The whole goal of this position is not to have to talk to (media) hardly ever,” Katula said. “If your name is not mentioned, you’re doing your job. That’s what we all try to do. Stay out of the limelight. The limelight not good for us.”

Katula, 28, said he is happy for another opportunity.

“Everybody’s fighting for a job,” Katula said. “Some decisions are out of your hands. You just try to do your best and do your job to the best of your ability, and that’s really what I hope to do here.”
