Patriots QB Tom Brady just wrapped up his appearance on WEEI, and said he didn’t watch any NFL football yesterday – he kept track of scores on his phone, but he didn’t get the opportunity to watch any of the games on television.
Getting a few days off from coach Bill Belichick was a good time for many players to rest and recover, and Brady believes it was almost like getting a second bye week.
More bits from Brady:
Whether he’s able to stop be the Pats quarterback for a few days:
No, I spend a lot of time…I’ve seen a lot of games. Not on TV, but on my computer breaking down opponents. I was trying to get ahead on Chicago, we play them on a short week, so I watched a lot of them and made my notes, and yesterday turned to the Jets.
Whether he’s playing at the top of his game right now:
I could play better, there’s no doubt about that, and I think this would be a great week for it. There’s so much that goes into having success as a quarterback…it discredits what everyone else is doing to (focus only) on the quarterback. I play with a great group of guys. Really proud to be part of a team that has showed up when it matters most.
Whether the offense is on the same page
Well, you know, I would say its week-to-week thing, it’s not…last week, sure it was good. I think we’ve been doing better; I would’t say we’ve got it all figured out. There’s still young players that need to contribute. Wes and Deion are a big part of what we do, Rob Gronkowski has proven himself, but Aaron Hernandez has to get more in the mix, Brandon Tate, Julian…it can’t be just one or two guys. That balance on offense (with the run game) has really shown up too.
Yelling at teammate on the sidelinesWhat I feel, what I say, there’s always an effort to bring energy out there. I love being out there at practice – I’m always on edge. I’ve been around a little while…look, we’re 9-2, we haven’t accomplished anything. These games that we’re playing, yeah they’re important, but a lot of guys on this team have played in much bigger games, and to me we really haven’t accomplished anything. …I’m trying to express to teammates: we haven’t done anything. Nine wins is nothing. It’s not easy this time of year – there’s a lot of guys banged up, mental toughness an issue, weather an issue, games are getting tougher.
On the Jets’ defenseYou never really know what’s coming from the Jets. They have their style, they have a great defensive system, they have a lot of great players within that system. They’re able to take chances up front because they trust their cover guys. They do good job of really changing things up on each offense. Playing them fourth time [under Rex Ryan], I have a lot more confidence than the first time we played them. It’s going to be a hell of a game; I’m excited for it.
