Meriweather’s 50K fine from October is reduced

Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather is getting a little money back after he was one of three players fined for flagrant hits back in October.

Meriweather’s $50,000 fine was reduced to $40,000, while Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson’s fine was reduced from $50,000 to $25,000 and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison’s fine was reduced from $75,000 to $50,000, according to the New York Times.

In October, the three players landed in the spotlight after their flagrant hits prompted the NFL to make a statement that stiffer penalties would be issued for helmet-to-helmet hits.

Ted Cottrell, who is an NFL appeals officer, reduced the fines and told the New York Times that he was convinced the players understand the rules and have made a sincere effort to adjust their play.
