Ochocinco: ‘You won’t see the same Chad you’re used to…’

FOXBOROUGH — Chad Ochocinco met with the New England media today for the first time since his arrival and declared he will be a different version of himself as a member of the Patriots.

“I’m going to be a little quiet,” said Ochocinco after the team’s practice. “You won’t get the same Chad you’re used to. I probably wont’ be talking to the media much – probably not at all really. I’m just going to play ball and ride the wave.”

Ochocinco participated in the team’s first padded practice of the season and after it was over addressed the large contingent of media. He thanked the fans in Cincinnati, the Bengals and Marvin Lewis. And then hit on a few topics.

A burning question was how he ended up with No. 85, a number tight end Aaron Hernandez wore last season.

“This is his way of greeting me here. I didn’t have to pay anything. I shook his hand and said, ‘thank you,’ Ochocinco said.

So what will Ochocinco do to show Hernandez his appreciation? “I drive a Toyota Prius so I was going to let him use my Prius on the weekends. That’s the best I can do right now. I have some left over McDonald’s coupons.”

Ochocinco also talked about his relationship with Brady.

“Me and Tom are really cool. It’s just been a joy. I don’t get to talk to him much except when we played [the Patriots] but we have conversations off the field and on the field. I respect him.l He’s the best at his craft. I’ve always called him the surgeon. It’s going to be fun being one of his patients.”

Ochocinco ended his press conference with a request for a group hug from the media. So some things may stay the same.
