Caserio: Green-Ellis expected this week

The Patriots announced yesterday that Logan Mankins and Kyle Arrington, the team’s franchise player and an exclusive-rights free agent, respectively, had signed their tenders and had joined the team (Arrington technically signed a two-year extension).

Missing from that list was restricted free agent BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

But director of player personnel Nick Caserio, who met with reporters this morning, said Green-Ellis, an undrafted rookie in 2008 who topped 1,000 yards last season, is expected to join the team “at some point this week.” He added that it is fair to say that the team has been in talks with Green-Ellis’ agent, just as it has with Matt Light’s.

As far as on the field, Caserio said the early focus “is on fundamentals and techniques – those are the things that go quickly.” Without the spring camps the Pats normally hold, it had been six months since most players had been with coaches or put those things into practice.

Asked about Marcus Cannon, Caserio gave a pretty positive report: “He’s still kind of going through his process. But he looks great and he’s done everything he’s been asked to do. We’re optimistic…Marcus has been great, he’s doing great, he’s in good spirits.”
