Rookie running back Shane Vereen returned to practice this week after missing a significant chunk of time due to a hamstring injury. He said today he isn’t quite 100 percent, but he’s getting close, and is unsure whether he’ll see his first game time Saturday in Detroit.
Missing so much time was frustrating, the second-round pick said.
“I think the biggest challenge is obviously my hamstring – coming back and then being out once again, not really being able to get a feel for anything,” he said.
Vereen left the team’s in-stadium practice on Aug. 3 and returned on
Calling himself an “all around” running back, Vereen is helped that some of the things he did in Jeff Tedford’s offensive system at Cal are things he will be asked to do in New England.
“Certain things are, it’s real similar, but the names are different and the terminology is different, so you have to get used to the terminology as well,” Vereen said.
The decision on whether or not he’ll play against the Lions is up to coaches and trainers.
