Quick halftime thoughts

FOXBOROUGH – The Patriots were held scoreless in the first half against the Giants after Stephen Gostkowski missed a 27-yard field in the final seconds. The last time that happened was Dec. 12, 2006 at Miami — a game the Patriots lost, 21-0.

The Patriots’ offensive line has to play better for the offense to have a chance. The run blocking has been subpar. Tom Brady isn’t being given a clean pocket to operate in. He’s hardly had a throw when he’s not under pressure. It’s almost a replay of Super XLII.

That Patriots have to run against the Giants, but I’m surprised they’re doing it with so many heavy formations. Not sure why they’re not running out of more spread formations. The Giants are stacking the box.

The Patriots need to take a couple of shots with Chad Ochocinco, who has been open. He’s running his routes with much more authority.

The Patriots have played much better on defense with some changes in the linebacker alignments for zone pass coverage. They’re also mixing in more pressure and man coverage.

The punters in this game are putting on a clinic.

This is a throwback game. Very physical and good, tough football. Scoreless ties might look boring, but this is a good football game.
