Kraft among most influential

Sports Business Journal named its annual list of the most influential people in sports business this week, and once again Patriots’ owner Robert Kraft made the top 10.

This year Kraft moved up from last year’s ranking of ninth to eighth place. He is the highest-ranking team owner on the list, for any sport.

Wrote the magazine:

Kraft’s summer of sorrow, losing his beloved wife, Myra, also may have seen his greatest accomplishment. The picture of Colts center Jeff Saturday hugging Kraft, a key member of the NFL’s negotiating committee, on the day the new collective-bargaining agreement was announced showed the world who may have been most responsible for saving the NFL season.

Steve Burke, president and CEO of NBCUniversal Holdings, who oversaw the merger of NBC and cable giant Comcast, was chosen number on by SBJ for 2011.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who was last year’s number one, is fourth for 2011. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones came in 10th.

Red Sox owner John Henry came in 25th.
