The Patriots spent this evening feting Troy Brown, who was inducted into the franchise’s Hall of Fame for his career accomplishments after being voted in by the fans.
It is a measure of Brown’s popularity with his former teammates that many of them were on hand for the ceremony, including Deion Branch, who was released by the team on Aug. 31 in a bit of a surprise move.
We’ll have much more from Brown in the next post, but for now, here’s what Branch said about being cut during a brief chat we had after the ceremony:
Were you surprised to get cut?
I think all of us are surprised (when it happens); but it’s the nature of the business, it’s part of the business.
When receivers Jabar Gaffney and Donte’ Stallworth were cut, did you think you were safe?
Uh…yeah and no. it’s like what Troy was saying earlier – no one is ever safe. You’ve just got to come in and do your job and go from there, and that’s what I was doing. I think the organization is going to do what’s best for the team, whatever they feel is best for the team, and you have to respect that, and I do.
If the Patriots were to call in a couple of weeks and offer you a spot, would you come back?
I’d love to be back. I’d embrace it and pick up right where I left off at.
What are you up to these days?
Right now, working out, spending a lot of time with the family, enjoying it. Making sure I’m staying abreast of what’s going on here and just enjoying a lot of family time.
