Donte’ Stallworth scores, and gives an assist to the big screen at Gillette

FOXBOROUGH – Newly acquired Patriots wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth caught a 63-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady in the third quarter of Monday night’s 42-14 dismantling of the Texans, and he credited the big video screen at Gillette Stadium with the assist.

“I didn’t even see the guy behind me until I looked up at the screen,” Stallworth said after the game. “So that’s why I grabbed it with two hands… last time I was here and I did that I got myself in trouble doing that I got caught from behind so I didn’t want that to happen again this time… guys do it all the time, it’s like having eyes in the back of your head.”

The touchdown was Stallworth’s longest reception since he caught a 69-yard touchdown pass from Brady at Dallas on Oct. 14, 2007. The touchdown was Stallworth’s first in a Patriots uniform since Oct. 21, 2007 at Miami.

“We had a game plan that we wanted to execute and I felt like for the most part we did,” Stallworth said. “We came in and we wanted to play a 60-minute game. You watch [the Texans] on film all year and there is a reason why they came in here at 11-1. They are a really good team. Today, we just played well and ended up winning the game.”

Stallworth was the 16th Patriots player to score a touchdown this season. The 16 players with a touchdown is the most by the Patriots since 2007, when they tied an NFL record when 21 players reached the end zone.

“That particular play is something that we had worked on, even in the spring,” Stallworth said regarding his TD reception. “It was just an opportunity where they were kind of flat-footed and it gave me an opportunity to run by the guy and Tommy made a great throw. He put it up for me to catch it and that’s what I did.”

All in all, Stallworth is just happy to be back and producing on the field.

“Just being out here with the guys. When I first got signed earlier this week it was really good being back around the guys, being back here in the locker room with the fellas,” Stallworth said. “It’s been a good week. I wanted to come in and make sure that I was prepared. I’ve been studying hard all week and I felt like I was prepared coming in. The coaches did a good job of preparing me. My coach, Chad O’Shea, did a great job of preparing me and we ended up making some plays today and winning the ball game.”
