In a pregame ceremony honoring the broadcast tandem of Gil Santos and Gino Cappelletti, Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced the team would induct Santos into the team’s hall of fame as a contributor next year.
Santos, who has called Patriots games for 36 years, teared up at the announcement.
“You made me cry, and now I’m blowing my tough guy image,” Santos said.
Cappelletti returned to the booth to call the first series of the Patriots-Dolphins game with Santos. The two had worked together for 28 years before Cappelletti retired after the 2011 season.
“[Gil] is my friend, my partner, my compadre,” Cappelletti said. “And the best play by play partner on the planet.”
