FOXBOROUGH — The Patriots announced that they signed cornerback LeQuan Lewis and released rookie tight end Brandon Ford.
Lewis, 24, is a second-year pro out of Arizona State. He was signed as an undrafted rookie by the Tennessee Titans in 2011, but didn’t make it through training camp. In 2012, he spent three games with the Dallas Cowboys and five games with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Lewis spent part of the 2012 offseason with the Oakland Raiders and New York Jets. He spent part of the 2013 offseason with the Chicago Bears before being released May 13.
Ford, a rookie out of Clemson, had fallen behind in the competition at tight end. He didn’t practice with the team in Philadelphia and missed Friday’s game against the Eagles.
