The Patriots on Tuesday signed tight end Evan Landi; to make room, they released defensive lineman Jason Vega.
Landi, an undrafted rookie out of South Florida, was initially signed by Tampa Bay on April 29, but was released June 4. He is listed at 6 feet 3 inches, 236 pounds, and played in 46 games with the Bulls (26 starts). He recorded 72 receptions for 846 yards and three touchdowns at USF, seeing time at quarterback and receiver.
Vega, 26, was signed by the Patriots earlier this year after spending two seasons with the CFL’s Winnipeg team. A Brockton native who went on to play at Northeastern, Vega was credited with three tackles in Friday’s game against the Eagles.
