The Patriots announced the release of two players earlier Tuesday, but they weren’t done making moves for the day: They were awarded DT Gilbert Pena off waivers from the Packers.
Pena, listed at 6 feet 2 inches, 330 pounds, played at Ole Miss. Though a rookie, he is already 26 years old, having initially put off college to care for his ailing mother. At 23, he accepted a scholarship to a junior college in New York, and played so well there he received a scholarship to Mississippi, where he played nose tackle.
To make room for Pena on the roster, the Patriots waived OL Brice Schwab.
