The Colts have announced the signing of veteran wide receiver Deion Branch, just days before Indianapolis faces New England in a playoff game Saturday night.
A 2002 draft pick of the Patriots who was MVP of Super Bowl XXXIX, Branch played 89 games over seven years with New England, including 10 games (four starts) last year, when he had 16 catches for 145 yards.
Indianapolis does have injuries at receiver — Darrius Heyward-Bey hurt a hamstring in the wild-card round — and brought in Branch for a tryout in December. On Monday afternoon, Colts coach Chuck Pagano told reporters that his team “needed some legs,” and that Branch had a good workout.
Branch, 34, has long owned a home in the Indianapolis area.
